Theme and Scope


Various social computing applications such as blogs, email, instant messaging, social networking(Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.), wikis, and social bookmarking have been widely popularized where people interact socially via computing space. Social computing has emerged as an exciting multidisciplinary area of research that broadly refers to computing-supported approaches to study social behavior within a social context. The special issue of Journal of Internet Technology on “Advances in Social Computing” is intended to foster state-of-the-art research in the area of social computing, including theoretical studies, emerging trends and applications and experimental prototypes. The papers should not be submitted simultaneously for publication elsewhere. Submissions of high quality papers are expected for tackling problems associated with social computing.

 

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Theories and Models. Critical analysis or organizing theory with clear relevance to the design or study of social and collaborative systems.

  • System Design. Hardware, architectures, infrastructures, interaction design, technical foundations, algorithms and/or toolkits that enable the building of new social and collaborative systems and experiences. 

  • Social Data Analysis. Methods for analyzing and representing social Networks and other large graphs, personalization and recommender Systems, preference analysis and user modeling, and dimensionality reduction approaches.

  • Methodologies and Tools. Novel methods or combinations of approaches and tools used in building systems or studying their use.

  • Social Applications. Including applications to healthcare, transportation, gaming, education, accessibility, crowdsourcing, socialization,or other domains.

  • Challenging Issues. Security, privacy, trust,risk in social contexts, big data analytics and storage, impact on people’s activities in complex and dynamic environments.


Instructions for Manuscripts


This special issue aims to foster state-of-the-art research in the area of social computing. Authors are
invited to submit manuscripts reporting original unpublished research and recent developments. Manuscripts
should be written in English and strictly follow the guideline of the Journal of Internet Technology
at http://jit.ndhu.edu.tw/preparation2.php. The covering letter should indicate the names of the
authors and their affiliations, addresses, faxes, and e-mails. Submission should be emailed as a PDF or
Word file directly to Dr. Yuqing Sun, at sdu_splab@163.com by August 15, 2015.
