Summary:
The purposes are to investigate the fundamental subjects in optical fiber sensor technology, including but not limited to the following topics: Micro/nanostructured fiber-optic sensors; Fiber-optic chemical and biological biosensors; Novel sensing modalities for distributed sensors; New fiber and coating materials for sensing; Optical fiber sensing technology based on femtosecond laser micromachining; Fiber-optic sensor system technologies; Special optical fiber, device, and industrialization; Optical fiber sensor engineering and system integration technology, etc.

Yong Zhao received his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees, respectively, in precision instrument & automatic measurement with laser and fiber-optic techniques from the Harbin Institute of Technology, China, in 1998 and 2001. He was a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Electronic Engineering of Tsinghua University from 2001 to 2003, and then worked as an associate professor in the Department of Automation, Tsinghua University of China. In 2009, he was awarded as the “Liaoning Bai-Qian-Wan Talents” by Liaoning Province. In 2014, he was awarded by the National Science Foundation for Distinguished Young Scholars of China. In 2015, he was honored as the Yangtze River Scholar Distinguished Professor by the Ministry of Education of China. Now he is working in Northeastern University as a full professor. As the academic leader and director of his research institute, his current research interests are the development of fiber-optic sensors and device, fiber Bragg grating sensors, novel sensor materials and principles, slow light and sensor technology, optical measurement technologies. He has authored and co-authored more than 300 scientific papers and conference presentations, 50 patents, and 5 books. He is a member in the Editorial Boards of the international journals of Sensor Letters, Instrumentation Science & Technology, Journal of Sensor Technology, and Advances in Optical Technologies.

Ri-qing Lv received the Ph.D. in detection technology and automatic devices from Northeastern University (NEU), Shenyang, China, in 2014. He worked as a postdoc in the College of Information Science and Engineering at Northeast University, from 2014 to 2017. He is currently working as an associate professor in Northeastern University, Shenyang, China. His research interests are in magnetic fluids, fiber-optic sensors, nano-materials, and machine learning. He is author and co-author of more than 50 scientific papers and conference presentations, including Optics Letters, IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement, Measurment, Journal of Lightwave Technology, Optics and Lasers in Enginering, etc.
