CCF Transactions on Pervasive Computing and Interaction (CCF TPCI) is dedicated to publishing rigorously peer-reviewed, high-quality scientific articles covering all aspects of human-computer interaction and pervasive/ubiquitous computing. Computing technology is becoming increasingly pervasive, and enables more advanced interactions among humans, machines, and the environment. To foster the developments in the area, CCF TPCI provides a publication and communication platform and welcomes contributions from researchers, professionals, and industrial practitioners. This journal is published on behalf of the China Computer Federation (CCF), and it is powered by the CCF technical committees on Pervasive Computing and Human Computer Interaction.

Special Issue on Human-Centered Cooperative Computing of CCF TPCI

From mainframes to personal computers, mobile phones, and then wearables and AIoTs, computing technologies have become increasingly approachable, personalized, and socially connected. Particularly, the computing paradigm now comprises rich forms of cooperations in a broad sense, e.g., between humans, computers, sensors, smart agents.
The evolution of computing technologies has brought unprecedented benefits, e.g., cost reduction, improved efficiency, pervasive availability, personalized and intelligent services. Meanwhile, it also raises challenges and concerns, as they introduce new implications and demands to our daily lives, expose us to new attacks and threats, and cause undesirable societal impacts and consequences. These emerging challenges make human-centered cooperative computing more relevant now than ever.
In early 1990s, Jonathan Grudin, one of the pioneers in the field of HCI/CSCW, described how HCI shifts its focus and broadens its concerns as “computer reaches out”. Indeed, three decades later, the research topics of HCI/CSCW/Ubicomp have been evolving along with computing technologies: from human experiences with interfaces/interactions to societal and cultural implications with intelligent/pervasive computing algorithms; from computer-supported cooperation to partnering with computers for various new forms of content creation and consumption; from human-computer interaction to human-computer integration; etc.
This special issue on Human-Centered Cooperative Computing (HCCC) of CCF TPCI is to bring together work to better understand and address various issues brought about with the advancement of computing, and cooperative computing particular, not only from technical but also from social perspectives. It provides an opportunity for scholars, researchers, and practitioners to shape our lives with human-centered approaches, aiming to understand salient issues and address challenges with multidisciplinary perspectives.
